Meal at Resto Surabaya, Lucky Plaza (17 Jun 2012)

My husband saw in one of the blog mention that there is a nice Ayam Penyet at Lucky Plaza and is cheap and nice than Ayam Penyet Ria. So, since we at orchard area at 4.15pm without lunch yet then we decided to go and try it out. The restaurant name is Resto Surabaya. We ordered 1 Ayam Penyet, 1 Ayam Bakar, 1 additional rice (it will be our lunch and dinner already so need additional rice) and 1 Ice Chendol. After the waitress repeat our orders, then ask me only 1 rice? Then my response is 'ar??' then he just told me that the chicken is not come with rice. I see..so I just said I want 3 bowl rices. All our order server at our table very fast and i realise the chicken is a bit smaller compare with Ayam Penyet Ria. Ok, since server to us then time to eat already. Hmm...nice than Ayam Penyet Ria? ok, talk abt the Ayam Penyet first, the color of the chicken is not fried until golden yellow color yet so when you see the chicken already no appetize to eat but because we very hungry so must eat also. For me I still like Ayam Penyet from Ayam Penyet Ria. How about the chili? OK, Ayam Penyet Ria and Resto Surabaya's chili is different, so can not compare. Both have own taste of chili and i don't know what is the original taste of the chili it should be because i never eat at Indonesia before but for me both have unique taste of the chili and i like both of the chili. Now talk about Ayam Bakar. That's my 2nd time try eat Ayam Bakar from Indonesia Cuisine but the first time i ate is at food court at Plaza Singapore but is 3 to 4 years ago so I not really remember the taste. But now this Ayam Bakar that i eat at Resto Surabaya consider no bad, the sauce is dark soya sauce with sweet and sour (lime). Their Ice Chendol is no nice because is use coconut sugar and taste almost same as chendol from Malacca, Malaysia. So, conclusion is if I want to eat Ayam Penyet then i will choose to go Ayam Penyet Ria but if I want to eat Ayam Bakar and Ice Chendol then I will choose Resto Surabaya until I found another nicer place to eat Ayam Bakar again. Honestly when talk about price, then I always feel that eat this type of food is too expensive but what to do, at Singapore city area all the food almost at this range of price.
Ayam Penyet and Ayam Bakar each is S$6, 1 bowl of rice is RM0.80 and Ice Chendol is RM3. One thing good at Resto Surabaya is do not have GST 7%. So if you compare the Ayam Penyet price at Ayam Penyet Ria and Resto Surabaya, Resto Surabaya is cheaper S$0.60, that's why the size of the chicken is smaller a bit.

Dumpling....

Dragon Boat Festival is coming soon...normally 1 week before the festival, we can see people selling dumplings and also a lot of people will start made the dumplings by own and enjoying eat before the festival or wait until near to the date then just do again for praying. I'm so lucky because almost every year during this festival, my colleagues will bring dumpling for me and treat me eat because they know I like to eat dumpling and know that I stay at Singapore no chance to do by own due to I only rent a room at here and also no chance to eat my mum made one but this year, I manage to take leave and go back hometown this coming Friday so I have chance to eat dumpling that my Mum made (after 6 years never eat dumpling that my Mum made). :-)
For so many years eat dumplings given by different colleagues, I realise different country and different dialect will have different taste of dumpling. This year, the first dumpling i get from my colleague is work at QC Department. That is my first time taste her dumpling and I get shock because is scallop dumpling and others than scallop, inside still got a lot of meat, half of the salted egg yolk, mushroom and chestnut. I miss out to take photo of the dumpling because that time I really enjoying eat the scallop dumpling. hihi!
Second dumpling is from Sales Manager's mum made one. A bit special compare with last time I eat..a bit spicy taste, maybe when cook the dry prawn's ingredient, his mum put some chili powder. Color of the rice a bit white and no much meat and the meat is cut to small pieces and also the mushroom. But it's coming with a big salted egg yolk (my favourite), chestnut and a lot of peanut. I like the taste as well...although I don't know is from which dialect but i like it.

Third dumpling is from my Manager's mum bring from Indonesia (From Medan delivery to Jakarta then bring to Singapore). Is very special and called mini dumpling, around 4cm size. haha!that's my first time see so small dumpling and we very curious how to put all the ingredients inside the dumpling but you will get surprise, you can taste the meat, chinese sausage, mushroom, chestnut, dry prawn and salted egg yolk. Taste is very nice...When i enjoying eat the dumpling for the last bite, I suddenly stop because i bite a small chili inside the dumpling and is very splicy! haha! I don't understand how come inside dumpling come with small chili?? Anyway, that's special mini dumpling from Indonesia. haha! If you want to try out this mini dumpling then you can ask your Medan, Indonesia's friend help you buy. As I know, there is delivery from Medan to Jakarta, no bad right? The sample packing box is as below photo.

Shooting Day - Lotus (10 Jun 2012)

Shooting Day again...Last month when shooting at Marina Bay, i saw there is a very nice lotus at the garden. But because that time our purpose is shoot for scenery so we never bring macro lens. So this time we plan to go again just to shoot for lotus. At first we plan go on Saturday early morning but unlucky there is heavy rain so end up we cancel our plan and change to Sunday. But, Sunday early morning my husband got some important things need to settle so we just plan go for shooting after settle his things.
Ok, after he settle his things on Sunday morning is already 10.30am and from the place go to Marina Bay by bus and walk still need around 30mins so when the time reach there will be 11am. So as normal, if i start shooting, at least took 2-3 hours just can finish and it will crash with our lunch time. After consider for our lunch time, we decided go to temple at Bugis area pray and take our lunch. Finally 2.30pm we reached our destination - garden near to Marina Bay Gold Course.
The weather on that time is super hot and the sun like burning my skin also. At least my husband told me either we wait until 5pm just shoot or we just go back home. But now only 2.30pm and if want to wait until 5pm is still few hours to go and what we can do at there with very hot weather? hmm..go back? then in the first place why we need to spent our time to take train and transfer 2 bus number then walk for 10mins just to reach the location? So, i decided to take photos but my husband said he cannot continue with this hot weather. So, I just ask him stay at the one place wait for me then I go for shooting. Actually under sun is very difficult to take photo because will having problem to get a correct setting. At first i using auto lens which is Canon 400D Kit but the output is not the output i want so i just change to Helios 44 which is manual lens. Hmm...for me I like Helios 44 because it can wide open and get nice bokeh but this Helios 44 that we have is 50mm only so problem come already, i can not near to the object. After shoot for quite a lot of photos with Helios 44, I change to Vitacon 300mm which is also manual lens and this time i can zoom in and get closer to the object that i want to shoot. Actually using manual lens is not easy to get focus because your eye must be very good. I take until my eye also start blur. Keep shoot and shoot..Wah! I never realize already 5pm. I only feel my hand very tired and pain. Time to stop shooting and look for my husband. I just saw my husband start setup his camera...Aiya! He told me that he just want to start shooting but I told him I very tired already. So he said is ok, we can go back already..hihi! My husband is so good to me, know that I feel tired then he don't mind go back without take any photos.

Celebrate Birthday for My Best Friend - Honey (01/06/2012)

Today, my best friend, Honey (yes!her name is Honey and really printed in her identity card) skype chat with me and ask me any Bakerzin nice cake can recommend to her so as usual I will just recommend to someone based on what they like. After chat with her for awhile, suddenly I just ask her the cake is for who then she just told me 'For me la! tomorrow is my birthday!'...haha...ok...I really forgot that next day is her birthday. Is not i forgot which date is her birthday is i forgot today is what date. So, I admit is my fault and I suggested to treat her dinner today as celebrate for her birthday since today her husband is working and no time to accompany her. Ok, location I choose to meet at Clementi MRT but place to eat I let her to decide. I also ask my husband to meet up together for dinner and celebrate for Honey's birthday.
After meet up, Honey suggested to dinner at Soup Restaurant. At first we plan to order ala carte and dish that we choose are Samsui Ginger Chicken, Double Boiled Waisan & Ginseng Roots with Chicken Soup and Ah Kon Fan Shu Leaves. When we want to order, my husband suddenly ask us which set menu we want to order? Ok, why he suddenly ask like that because Honey and me is holding the ala carte menu but he holding is set menu then when we decide what to order that time is Honey and me talk in Mandarin which is my husband don't understand. So, after review the set menu there is 1 set menu for 2 persons is almost same with the dishes that we want to order, only extra 1 dish which is Steamed San Yu and price will be S$49.90, we decided to order this set menu to try the Steamed San Yu as well but we are 3 persons so we just order additional 1 plain rice.
The first dish serve on our table is Samsui Ginger Chicken. Samsui Ginger Chicken is come with the Ginger sauce and cabbage. So when eat, we need to dip the chicken to the ginger sauce, after that wrap the chicken with the cabbage. What I know from their website, this dish should come with letture and not cabbage but I don't know why is cabbage because cabbage is more hard compare with letture so when want to wrap, it's very difficult. hmm...this dish no bad especially the chicken is very smooth and soft, the ginger sauce very nice and suitable to dip for the chicken but cabbage really no suitable. I hope next time when I order this Samsui Ginger Chicken again should be come with letture.
Next is Ah Kon Fan Shu Leaves. Hmm...for me it just a normal sweet potato leaves cook with sambal chili. I have try this dish before at other Soup Restaurant branch and it still ok to eat but this time after I ate i feel abit disappointed because the sweet potato leaves really like Ah Kon age..haha!the leaves abit hard and consider old already.
After that is Steamed San Yu. Ok, when we decided to get set menu is because of this dish and the price different from we order ala-carte is near to S$15 and when the dish come, we all get shock for awhile because it very small portion. You can see from the photos below that the portion is like size of 3 spoons only. hmm..i can't taste any special of the taste of this dish but for whoever don't like salty food then can order this Steamed San Yu because it totally no salty.
Lastly, Double Boiled Waisan & Ginseng Roots with Chicken Soup and that is the only dish that I like for today meal and I also forgot to take photos for it. I like it maybe because i like to drink soup especially herbal soup. So i really enjoy drink this soup. Ohya! Honey choose this dish because she said the menu state that can helps to relieve stress and she said she need it. :-)

Makan @ Hometown - Sungai Petani, Kedah Malaysia

My husband and me went back to my hometown (Sungai Petani) from 25-30 May 2012 by bus because both of us very miss our son. Normally when we at hometown, we will look for nice food to eat. This trip we eat at Ikan Bakar @ Jalan Kuala Ketil, Pekan Lama (老街场). This stall is located at corner coffee shop near to junction traffic light. We like to eat at there because the sauce is homemade sauce and is use 'asam', 'laksa leaf' and so on to made it.  I already eat at this stall for so many years but the auntie never smile to anybody because she not really know how to smile but this trip make us get surprise, she smile to us...make all of us get shock. Maybe one of the reason is she already know that we are her long term customer so at least show a smile face to us to appreciate us. haha! We spent RM27 for 3 stingrays + lala (clams) + vegetable. Expensive??haha!ok la! At least cheap than i eat at Singapore. If you come to Sungai Petani then should try out this Ikan Bakar but for me the lala is so so only.

Ikan Bakar - 1 stingray with vegetable

Lala (Clams)

Besides, we also order others type of food to try out.
  • BBQ Chicken, RM1.8 per wing - we order 3 pcs to try out. The BBQ Chicken normal only but the sauce is sweet type and i don't like at all.
BBQ Chicken Wing
  • Curry Mee, RM3 per bowl - I never eat Curry Mee but my mum very like to eat and she said the curry mee in this coffee shop is very nice so nice or no nice after you try by own then just know lo! hihi!

Curry Mee

  • Fried Kuey Tiao, RM3 per plate - Hmm...actually the fried kuey tiao is very nice one but this time i order is without chili because my son want to eat. haha! my son haven't reach 1 year old but when he see us eat something then he also want to eat and must same with us. So, i must order at least 1 dish which is non-spicy food so that he can eat. haha..!yes, i know baby should not eat this type of food...but what to do..my son will make noise and cry if never give him. He don't like baby food and he know how to choose nice food to eat and better than me alot...haha!

Fried Kuey Tiao

Ohya, this coffee shop got Chu Zhar stall popular with 'Hor Fan' or 'Ying Yong' but the owner only open the stall after 10pm and need to wait very long because alot of people make pre-order so we can't wait. If you wait for this stall open just come then you will miss out the Ikan Bakar because sometime the Ikan Bakar finish very fast. So, you must know what you want to eat at there and what time to go there. Enjoy...

Cook Tinola and Sopas on Sunday (20/05/2012)

Today plan to save money and cook by own again for our lunch and dinner. Budget is as low as we can. So, we went to wet market bought 1 chicken breast (no leg, no wing, no head, only body part)  for S$3 and this chicken will use to cook for our lunch and dinner. Last few days my husband bought chayote (S$0.50) and there is balance 1 in our refridge so I plan to cook it before it spoilt. Hence, i decide to cook Tinola (Philippine Food) for our lunch. err....the way i cook Tinola actually already modify by me. hihi! Reason why i modify is because we can't cook until the kitchen oily so I will cook as soup type. By right this dish need to put some oil in pan then fried ginger, garlic, onion, chicken (already marinate with dark soya sauce, light soya sauce and abit salt) and chayote. After that just put water in and let it boil then put fish sauce but my way is either direct put all ingredients to the boiling water or put the ingredients into pot and fried then cover it n slowly stir it once in a while after that just add water. Hmm..after prepare the ingredients i just realise it will be alot after cook so i decide cook more rice so that i can keep some Tinola bring to office for my tomorrow lunch. hihi...save money again for my lunch. From the photo i post look abit oily because i put all the chicken skin n cook it. Last time i will keep the chicken skin then fried it but now can't fried so my husband said don't waste it so i just put in n cook together.

Tinola

After settle our lunch then how about dinner? I just cook a simple Sopas since that time when i cook Sopas there is balance pasta.  This time really just cook simple type and never put mushroom. Only garlic, onion, chicken to prepare the soup then add pasta and milk. Hihi...so today our lunch + dinner + my next day lunch total up spent less than S$6.
