Makan @ Hometown - Sungai Petani, Kedah Malaysia

My husband and me went back to my hometown (Sungai Petani) from 25-30 May 2012 by bus because both of us very miss our son. Normally when we at hometown, we will look for nice food to eat. This trip we eat at Ikan Bakar @ Jalan Kuala Ketil, Pekan Lama (老街场). This stall is located at corner coffee shop near to junction traffic light. We like to eat at there because the sauce is homemade sauce and is use 'asam', 'laksa leaf' and so on to made it.  I already eat at this stall for so many years but the auntie never smile to anybody because she not really know how to smile but this trip make us get surprise, she smile to us...make all of us get shock. Maybe one of the reason is she already know that we are her long term customer so at least show a smile face to us to appreciate us. haha! We spent RM27 for 3 stingrays + lala (clams) + vegetable. Expensive??haha!ok la! At least cheap than i eat at Singapore. If you come to Sungai Petani then should try out this Ikan Bakar but for me the lala is so so only.

Besides, we also order others type of food to try out.
  • BBQ Chicken, RM1.8 per wing - we order 3 pcs to try out. The BBQ Chicken normal only but the sauce is sweet type and i don't like at all.
BBQ Chicken Wing
  • Curry Mee, RM3 per bowl - I never eat Curry Mee but my mum very like to eat and she said the curry mee in this coffee shop is very nice so nice or no nice after you try by own then just know lo! hihi!

Curry Mee

  • Fried Kuey Tiao, RM3 per plate - Hmm...actually the fried kuey tiao is very nice one but this time i order is without chili because my son want to eat. haha! my son haven't reach 1 year old but when he see us eat something then he also want to eat and must same with us. So, i must order at least 1 dish which is non-spicy food so that he can eat. haha..!yes, i know baby should not eat this type of food...but what to do..my son will make noise and cry if never give him. He don't like baby food and he know how to choose nice food to eat and better than me alot...haha!

Fried Kuey Tiao

Ohya, this coffee shop got Chu Zhar stall popular with 'Hor Fan' or 'Ying Yong' but the owner only open the stall after 10pm and need to wait very long because alot of people make pre-order so we can't wait. If you wait for this stall open just come then you will miss out the Ikan Bakar because sometime the Ikan Bakar finish very fast. So, you must know what you want to eat at there and what time to go there. Enjoy...

Cook Tinola and Sopas on Sunday (20/05/2012)

Today plan to save money and cook by own again for our lunch and dinner. Budget is as low as we can. So, we went to wet market bought 1 chicken breast (no leg, no wing, no head, only body part)  for S$3 and this chicken will use to cook for our lunch and dinner. Last few days my husband bought chayote (S$0.50) and there is balance 1 in our refridge so I plan to cook it before it spoilt. Hence, i decide to cook Tinola (Philippine Food) for our lunch. err....the way i cook Tinola actually already modify by me. hihi! Reason why i modify is because we can't cook until the kitchen oily so I will cook as soup type. By right this dish need to put some oil in pan then fried ginger, garlic, onion, chicken (already marinate with dark soya sauce, light soya sauce and abit salt) and chayote. After that just put water in and let it boil then put fish sauce but my way is either direct put all ingredients to the boiling water or put the ingredients into pot and fried then cover it n slowly stir it once in a while after that just add water. Hmm..after prepare the ingredients i just realise it will be alot after cook so i decide cook more rice so that i can keep some Tinola bring to office for my tomorrow lunch. hihi...save money again for my lunch. From the photo i post look abit oily because i put all the chicken skin n cook it. Last time i will keep the chicken skin then fried it but now can't fried so my husband said don't waste it so i just put in n cook together.

Tinola

After settle our lunch then how about dinner? I just cook a simple Sopas since that time when i cook Sopas there is balance pasta.  This time really just cook simple type and never put mushroom. Only garlic, onion, chicken to prepare the soup then add pasta and milk. Hihi...so today our lunch + dinner + my next day lunch total up spent less than S$6.

Dinner at My Husband's Cousin House (19/05/2012)

Today is Saturday and both of us are more free so I suggested to my husband that why not we just visit his cousin because i miss his cousin's daughter already and he already agree so we just give his cousin a call to make sure today they all at home and no working. So, as usual we just went to Bugis area and settle our own things and around 5pm we just reached his cousin house. Once reached there, we all non-stop chatting together with his cousin and her housemates. Then her daughter just come to me and want me play and chat with her. While we all at living room chatting, My husband's uncle auntie was at kitchen prepare dinner. Ok...8pm and time for dinner...When they bring out all the dishes from the kitchen and i really feel happy and thankful to them because prepare my favourite food --> Torta Talong and Lumpia Togue. This 2 dishes are Philippine food. (Ohya!Look like i never mention in my blog before that my husband is Filipino Chinese and I'm Malaysian Chinese.) I'm very like to eat Torta Talong and been very long no chance to cook this dish after rent our current place. To prepare Torta Talong actually take very long time because need to BBQ the eggplant until it soft. After that need to cook minced pork with other ingredients then bring up again then beat with egg then cook together with eggplant. Some more need to use slow fire to cook it. Lumpia Togue actually almost same like our local popiah that use bean sprouts and wrap with popiah skin which is soft one but this one is deep fried. Yummy...Yummy...

My Husband Prepare Dinner (18/05/2012)

Today my husband told me that he want to prepare a simple meal which is steam minced pork but he never do before so he just skype and ask me to guide him. Normally if want to have a nice steam minced pork then must mix with salted fish or salted egg but both of this ingredient we don't have and i also don't want to ask him go and buy because we want is a simple and cheap meal. So what i ask him to do is steam minced pork with mushroom. To save time and electric/gas bill, normally we just direct steam with rice cooker while cook rice especially for people like us just rent a place and stay with owner because most of the owner don't like someone make their kitchen oily and dirty. I never put much hope that the steam minced pork will very nice because there is my husband first time prepare the dish and he may miss out something in the steps that i told him but this time i really get surprise that he can do very nice! Yummy...Hmm...total spent less than S$2 for our dinner.

Mayasari Banana Roll from My Manager

Everytime my manager go back her hometown sure will bring something for us especially food. We are so lucky have her as our manager..Hihi..Thanks boss...She like us to try out her local food. This morning she bring us a Banana Roll. Ok, what i can said is i very like it very much. It's not very sweet and inside the roll is Banana that's why call it "Banana" roll. Then at both side of the roll is chocolate. Don't worry, the chocolate is not sweet. For whoever no really like sweet food then should try out. Ask your friend buy at Indonesia then bring back for you to try or if you travel to Indonesia then just buy and bring back let your friend or family try it. The Banana Roll can keep for 3 days under room temperature. Ohya!is Mayasari brand.

Shooting Day @ Marina Bay (12 May 2012)

After rest for 2 weeks never go for shooting, time to warm up again. Last Friday my husband went for shooting by walk from our house to Marina Bay alone and he told me that there is a park near to the Marina Bay Golf Course's view is very nice so today he decided to bring me go there and shooting together. But sure i can't same like him walk from our place to Marina Bay because total distance is around 20km. I don't want to get tired when reach the location. So, as usual we will go to Bugis area pray. After that from Bugis we just walk to Marina Bay. Hmm...yes, the view is very nice and a lot of people bring family walk at there and some is jogging. But one things can't find at there is food stall. So, if you plan stay at there very long then remember bring own food. Of course, you can just walk to opposite near to Singapore Flyer have your meal. But i realise is good don't have food stall, at least the place will keep clean. Although now don't have food stall, i still can see drinking bottles just throw at garden. Really feel shameful with those no responsible person.

After busy on Public Holiday - Lunch at Lucky Plaza (Ayam Penyet Ria)

Today is Public Holiday (Labour Day) and it should be a happy day for me and my husband because both of us no need to work but sometime its always have special case. Most of my time in my work i no need to support or work from home when there is my off day but things start changes after my company IT Executive resigned on last year. I need to start to do his work because there is not replacement headcount for his position. Meaning to say, now my company only have one IT person --->>>ME!!!!!!  :-(
Yesterday around 9pm, my manager called me said that her email having problem so i get help from my previous IT Executive and try to solve it. I'm so lucky because he still treat me as friend and keep helping me when i facing problem in the job last time he handle. So, around 10.15pm we settle the problem but i need to help my boss delete all the bounce back email from her inbox. There is total from 8400 plus emails and i need to make sure is not important email then just can delete. Around 12.15am i just settle and drop email & sms to my manager to inform her it was settled but actually she already sleep. So, everything look fine until today morning around 10.30pm, i get message from my manager again....She can't send out email to Hotmail....faint...try to call vendor but all never answer. Start feel very stress and tired with my job. I really don't want stuck at home for my public holiday already. I just told my manager that i really no familiar with all this things and vendor also never answer my call so i can't do anything now and she said no urgent so ask me settle tomorrow. So, i just faster prepare and go out with my husband. Today, we want to go Lucky Plaza because my husband want to remittance. Hmm...today rate is very good for PESO....34.20. After settle, we go to Ayam Penyet Ria have our lunch at 3.30pm. Ayam Penyet Ria is a Indonesia cuisine. I like to eat at there because of the sambal and the deep fried chicken but i feel it abit expensive so can't always eat at there. 1 set of Ayam Penyet cost me S$6.90 + 7% GST = S$7.40 and 1 set of Soup Buntut is S$7 + 7% GST = S$7.50. The rice is very small and normally we need to add 1 more rice. Additional 1 rice is S$0.90 + 7% GST = S$1.
